On monday 12th February 2024, newly elected assembly members and government appointees of the Fanteakwa South District Assembly were sworn into office to officially commence their duties as a key component of the local government system in the District.
This was done in fulfilment of section 3 of the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936
In a speech read by Hon. Ernest Ofosu (DCE) on behalf of His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo urged the honourable assembly members to strictly complied with section 16 (1) of the Local Government Act 2016 ,ACT 936 requires assembly members to maintain close contact with their electoral area, consult the people on issues to be discussed at the district Assembly, collate views, opinions and proposals ; take in communal and development activities amongst others
The DCE also urged the assembly members to form an alliance with stakeholders and developmental patterns with the aim of developing their jurisdiction.
Mr. Albert Mensah (DCD) impressed upon the Honourable assembly members to collaborate closely with the relevant agencies of the assembly to improve upon their revenue inorder to carry out numerous developmental projects.
The newly inaugurated members in in the district includes elected assembly members, government appointees, the District preciding member and the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South Constituency Hon Kofi Okyere Agyekum
The District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South District Assembly Hon. Ernest Ofosu in a welcomed address revealed to that the Honourable assembly members that, they are enjoyed by sections 12 (1) and 13 of the local government act 2016 ( act 936) to formulate and execute plans, programmes and strategies for the effective mobilisation of resources for development of the district.
He therefore expressed his commitment and that of the staff to collaborate with them to achieve this noble aim.
Hon Ofosu also mentioned that although the duties of an assembly member is a challenging one, it takes a hard working ,discipline and sacrificial member to execute his/her duties to the satisfaction of electorates in their respective electoral areas.
He pleaded with the assembly members to set aside petty quarrels, mistrust and go about your duties devoid of political polarisation as the laws of local government frowns on it.
