In a bid to promote tax compliance and civic responsibility, the District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Fanteakwa South District-Osino embarked on a sensitization drive to the Ehiamenkyene market on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The exercise, which started at 8:12 am and ended at 12:23 pm, aimed to engage the general public on the need to prioritize payment of market tolls and fulfill their tax obligations.
Mr. Kwadwo Adu-Asare, NCCE District Director, reiterated that fulfilling payment of market levy and other tax obligations is the surest way to develop the district and the nation as a whole. He emphasized that taxes are essential for funding public goods and services that benefit society, including infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and security.
Mr. Patrick Addo, Civic Education Officer, admonished the public not to resist or fight revenue officials mandated to carry out their activities at the market. He explained that revenue collection is a critical component of district development and that every citizen has a responsibility to contribute to the growth and development of their community.
Mr. Richard Annor, Assistant Civic Education Officer, reminded the public of the benefits of paying taxes. He explained that taxes enable the government to provide essential services and infrastructure that improve the quality of life for citizens. He also emphasized that tax compliance is a civic duty that promotes accountability and transparency in governance
The sensitization drive was well-received by the market women, who expressed their appreciation for the NCCE’s efforts to educate them on the importance of tax compliance. The exercise marked a significant step towards promoting civic responsibility and tax compliance in the district, and it is expected to contribute to the overall development of the area.
