Department of Education, Youth and Sports and Its Role in the District Assembly

The Department of Education, Youth and Sports within the District Assembly plays a central role in shaping human capital and community development at the local level. It works to promote quality education, empower the youth, and support sports as a tool for growth, unity, and healthy living.

Key Roles:

  1. Education Development – Supervises and supports basic education within the district, including school infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, and programs to improve literacy and academic performance.

  2. Youth Empowerment – Designs and implements initiatives that provide training, mentorship, and employment opportunities for young people, while encouraging their participation in local governance and community projects.

  3. Sports Promotion – Facilitates and organizes sporting activities, tournaments, and recreational programs to promote discipline, fitness, and talent development among the youth.

  4. Collaboration – Works with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the National Youth Authority (NYA), and the National Sports Authority (NSA), as well as NGOs and community groups, to implement educational, youth, and sports initiatives.

  5. Talent Identification – Identifies and nurtures young talents in academics, leadership, and sports, giving them opportunities to represent the district at regional and national levels.

  6. Community Engagement – Encourages parents, teachers, and community leaders to support education, youth empowerment, and sports as key pillars of local development.
